Judy O'Sullivan Doolin County Clare

Judy O’Sullivan

Judy O'Sullivan

A graduate of Crawford College of Art, Cork and University College Cork, Judy O'Sullivan taught for a number of years before a growing interest in the therapeutic value of creativity led her to study art and colour therapy and ultimately to a new departure in her own creative work. In 2000, she moved from Dublin to Co. Clare and began working in Courthouse Studios, Ennistymon with established artists, which enabled and encouraged her development as an artist. Currently working from her own studio near Lisdoonvarna, she paints and exhibits full time as well as facilitating creativity workshops in Arts in Education and Arts in Health Programmes.

Her paintings are intimate in scale, with layered paint and mixed media. She often begins a series of work as meditation on a colour, working intuitively and allowing it to lead the way. In her recent paintings she is exploring the relationship between memory and place. She is interested in the connection between the physical landscape, which holds the imprint of the past, and the internal landscape, drawn by memory, which we carry within.

Recent exhibitions include her successful solo shows 'Conversing with Shadows' at The Courtyard Gallery, Cork 2007 and 'Mysteries must be...' at Tallaght Community Centre, Dublin. IN 2006, her work was shown as part of 'An Bhoireann' which travelled to France, as well as Iontas and Cork Art Trail. In 2005 she featured in Clare Artists Summer Exhibition, Glor Gallery and Doolin Artists Annual at the Russell Centre in Doolin.

Locally her work can be seen in the following locations:
Russell Gallery, New Quay
Lillimar, Ballyvaughan
